Phoenix Loves... England.

And in a flash it was over.

You know, one week seems like a long time for a baby but when that's all the time you've got to spend with the ones you love it's sadly not that long at all...

Back home now after an ace week in England and so much to talk about and remember - all good stuff if we forget about mum almost choking on a chicken bone! Where to start? Well, I guess the start is as good a place as any...

Hey ho let's go! Ready for the trip to the airport.
Munching on croissant at Kastrup airport.
First up we headed off to farmor and farfar's (granny and grandad's) house. I hadn't been there since we left England but it didn't take me long to settle back in, especially now I can crawl. So much to explore! Farmor, farfar, auntie Sophie, Lily and Daniel were all waiting for me when we got there. Not only was I spoilt with cuddles but there was a huge bag of presents waiting for me as well - you shouldn't have! I got to see dad's cousin Chris, his auntie Carol, his other cousin Liam and his girlfriend Hayley (Liam's gf, not dad's!) too - Brucey bonus or what?!?

I might have mentioned before that prior to me being born dad was the only person left who could carry on the Barker family name, despite farfar having five siblings! So now that honour (or pressure) has been passed onto yours truly - again, you shouldn't have! To celebrate this, here's three generations of Barkers sitting down for a spot of tea, English style...

Now who's king? Holding court with farfar and pappa.
On the Thursday we drove up to my auntie Kate, uncle Jon and cousin Harry's new house. It was so good to see them and how happy they are in their new home - we can't wait to come and spend Christmas there soon. I reckon my cousin Harry and I have got loads of fun times ahead. More blogging on this in particular soon!

Cousin Harry and me.
Next it was off to mum and dad's old hunting ground - London. We've still got tons of friends there (most tried to convince us to come back) so we had a busy schedule to stick to.

First we headed to dad's old work to say hello and have a bit of lunch with his friend Damien. Then we went to mum's work for a drink and chat with Shiona. Then it was off to meet mum's friend Noorin who let me share her muffin and finally we headed to find our beds for the night at Wayne and Roni's house south of the river. Wayne cooked mum and dad dinner which was nice for them but next time Wayne, save some food for me! Mum and dad always get all the good stuff.

"I'll take the expensive mirror with the cute baby in it please." At Heals.
We were up bright and early Saturday morning to head back to north London where this little blogger (I said blogger) was born. After a new haircut for mum we went for an early lunch with my godparents Tom and Kathryn who just happen to be two of my favourite people, enough said. After that it was off to the Salisbury pub where, you might recall, we had our leaving party in June. Now at this point lots and lots of friends came down and needless to say we had a wicked time. Most were adults but two special people get a mention, my friends Jet and baby Leo, who it was great to see again (Jet) and finally meet (Leo) - two cuties after my own heart.

Saturday night saw my parents abandon me (call the social!) to go out and have fun. Can you believe the cheek of it? I guess they're allowed a bit of fun without me, especially when I get to hang out with Jet, godmummy Kathryn, Kathryn's sister Sophie (a Phoenix Loves blog fan - shout out) and Jet's mum Molly. All I can say is that I was in toy heaven. So. Many. Toys. Mum and dad went to the London wedding party of dad's friend Davey and his new wife Twinkle (cool name) and I guess they must have had fun as they still had the same clothes on when they came to collect me the next day...

Dad and mum (whisper it) having fun.

Mum and Dad who?? Me and Jet causing trouble.

Sunday was a super quick breakfast with friends at our old favourite Cafe Lemon and then back to farmor and farfar's to chill out, and lord knows we needed it after such a crazy few days!

The Cafe Lemon Breakfast Club (CLBC).

A big, huge, giant thank you to everyone for making our trip so much fun. We can wait to see you all again soon in England... Or Sweden? Easyjet do super cheap flights - go on, I dare you!

Phoenix mused... Me pondering our travels.

What? We have to go home now?
All my love,

Phoenix Love x x x

P.S. I've heard a rumour that some people seem to think this blog isn't written by me, but by mum or dad instead. DON'T BELIEVE IT. Do you really think they could write like this? Puh-lease.

Phoenix Loves... 21st November.

21st November 1965 - Icelandic singer and musician Björk born.
21st November 1975 - Elton John received a star on Hollywood's Walk of Fame.
21st November 1983 - In Los Angeles, movie theatres premiered Michael Jackson's "Thriller" video.
21st November 2012 - Phoenix Love comes to England.

Ok, so maybe I'm getting a head of myself a bit but you never know - November 21st 2012 could be that momentous!

After months of waiting I will soon be hopping on a plane to the land of the Queen, fish'n'chips and oh just some of my favourite people in the whole world. Farmor, Farfar, my aunties Sophie and Kate, my godparents Tom and Kathryn - the list is endless.

Coming to get you England!
Mum and dad have been invited to the London wedding reception of dad's friend Dave and his new wife Twinkle, and we get the added bonus of spending some quality time with family and friends. Swedish life is great but sometimes I wish we could see everyone more often...

Mum's going to be running a tight ship as we've got loads of people to hang out with and just under a week to do it but I can't wait.

See you all in a few days!

Phoenix Loves... Bolibompa.

Yaaaaaaawn.

It's hard work getting up at 5:30am, all those early mornings start to catch up with you after a while. That's why it's good to start the morning the right way - you know, set yourself up for the rest of the day.

I think we all know what I'm talking about. The most important part of the day? Helps keep you going until night time? Begins with a 'B'... No, not breakfast - Bolibompa!

Good morning.

Bolibompa is kid's TV and it's on every morning here in Sweden. Dad says it's a bit like something called 'The Broom Cupboard' in England - for those of you old enough and ugly enough to remember!

They show all my favourite programmes and not just the Swedish ones, but loads of my old favourites from England too, like Mike the Knight - sweet! And not only do they show my faves but they also dedicated a day to celebrating my name. You see, in Sweden Phoenix doesn't officially have a names day but thanks to Bolibompa I do - check it out.

That's my name!
And it's not just me that enjoys Bolibompa, the folks do too.

Dad likes it as he can watch all the shows and try to understand what's being said in Swedish. He's been learning at S.F.I (Swedish For Immigrants) for almost two months now and he's getting better, but kid's TV is still just about his level...

Mum on the other hand has a whole other reason for not minding the early mornings. Each day there's a different person presenting the show and one in particular seems to tickle mum's fancy. His name is Farzad and I think he's my favourite too. Dad says mum fancies the pants off of him, whatever that means! Anyways, here he is in all his glory.

Farzad's the one on the right!
Don't worry though dad - you've got nothing to worry about. You may not be as tall, dark, handsome, young, cool, stylish, funny... Oops got a bit carried away there. Basically what I'm trying to say is that you're ours and no amount of Bolibompa can change that. We love you!

Phoenix Loves... Words.

“Kind words can be short and easy to speak, but their echoes are truly endless.”

A lady called Mother Teresa said that. She's not my mother (she's called mum!) but I guess she must be someone's mother. Answers on a postcard please...

I've been told that if I want to grow up and be a real boy then I have to practice something known as talking. Now, to be able to talk you have to know some 'words' of which there are millions - all meaning different things! All sounds rather tiring to me but I'm on a one way path to boyhood you see, so needs must.

I thought I'd been talking for months, but dad says I've just been making noises. He says that once I can talk a bit then him and mum will be able to understand me better. That explains why they never do what I ask...

So far I've managed to say 'mamma' which I really like 'cos it's fun to say, but apparently it also means mum. I say it quite a lot, even when dad tries to make me say pappa, which makes mum laugh and dad frown!

I think I've also mastered 'yeah' which is pretty funny to say over and over again, usually when mum and dad are still in bed. Cue evil laugh!

Then I think I've managed to get the hang of 'no' too or 'nej' here in Sweden. This one's good to use when I fed up, which isn't that often really.

Finally, the other morning dad says I managed to say the word 'Barry' which is in fact a name. The folks have been wracking their brains to think why I might have said this. Barry Manilow? Barry McGuigan? Maybe Barry White? No, after much soul searching they've decided it must be inspired by the one, the only, Barry from Eastenders. They say a picture paints a thousands words and I think this calls for a picture!

Barry from Eastenders . a.k.a Shaun Williamson
That's all folks!

Phoenix Loves... The Dark Side.

As I grow up I'm quickly finding out that with age comes something known as responsibility and there are some pretty tough choices out there to be made. In particular this happens for me every evening around about 6:45pm.

Picture my bathroom - well it isn't actually mine as it belongs to my mormor and morfar, but it's where I have my bath every night. As soon as I get in the water I'm allowed to choose one of mormor's rubber ducks to play with - check them out!

Decisions, decisions.
You see there comes a time in every little baby's life when they arrive at a fork in the road and simply have to decide. Good versus evil - which way to go?

- Nice kind helpful policeman duck Phoenix?
- No thanks.
- Friendly life-saving lifeguard duck then?
- No thanks.
- Biker duck?
- Hmm sometimes, but I think I'll plump for robber duck, devil duck #1 and then back for devil duck #2!

I can't help it. That's always how it goes down. No matter how hard mum and dad try to make me choose the good guys, I just can't. I don't think I'm particularly bad, in fact I think I'm a good boy really, but let's hope for mum and dad's sake that this isn't a sign of things to come! Mwah ha ha ha!

Yours evil-y,

Phoenix Love x x x

Phoenix Loves... Halloween.

Scary!
I don't know about you guys but I know I wouldn't want to bump into these freaky people on a dark night. Just think that some poor kid probably has these two for parents - bad luck or what?! That man's nose is even bigger than dad's and the lady has funny coloured hair... Wait a minute, isn't that my old moses basket in the background? Oh no, that's MY mum and dad!

This photo is my folks on October 31st 2011 which was before I was born, although if you look closely enough you can see me there - in mum's tummy!

October 31st is Halloween - also known as All Hallow's Eve, which in Sweden is a time when families light candles and lay them on the graves of their loved ones. That's a sweet thing to do I think. Mum and dad must not have got that memo though as it seems they just like to get dressed up in silly clothes, and this year they got me involved. Well, if you can't beat them... join them!

Roar!

Check out my spooky jack-o-lantern.
Dad says that when I'm older there'll be tons of fun stuff to do on Halloween, mainly involving something called sweets. I haven't tried these but I always see mum and dad sneaking them into their mouths on Saturdays. They don't think I notice but I do and if the noises they make when eating them are anything to go by then sweets must be well tasty! I can't wait!

Phoenix Love xxx

P.S. In Sweden having sweets on a Saturday is known as 'Lördags godis' - mums!

Phoenix Loves... A laugh.

My mum and dad are always trying to make me laugh. Sometimes they're good at it and sometimes they're not, but you can always guarantee they'll make fools of themselves just to try and put a smile on my face. Kind of sweet really.

They've even gone as far as to invent the 'mum and dad' shows where they come up with new stuff everyday to make me chuckle. It always happen after my evening bath and they take it in turn every other day, but you see something that I find funny one day might not be so funny the next day, so that keeps them on their toes and they always have to try out new material on me.

The mum and dad shows started off as loads of fun but I must admit it's got a bit out of hand of late - my folks have been getting really competitive over 'ratings' (i.e. me laughing) and dad has even accused mum of stealing his material - silly stuff!

Anyways, the point of my post is just to say that there's nothing better than a good laugh. I love it. You love it. We all love it. So I say do something today to make someone you love laugh, and I mean REALLY laugh - like yours truly...

Phoenix Loves... Domestic goddess mum #2.

A while back I was telling you all how great my mum is getting at this whole... well, mum thing! She's been making this, sewing that and cooking all kinds of tasty things. In fact in Sweden we say 'mums' if something is really tasty and I reckon this is the perfect word to use!

So I told you about the cool bibs mum was making, which at the time were all a bit hush hush, top secret and all that. The reason is that they were for two of my new friends, babies Leo and Tallulah, who the stork delivered to mum and dad's friends recently - Leo to dad's friend Vik and Tallulah to mum's friend Jenny.

Well when I last wrote the bibs hadn't been sent to them yet, but now they have so I can show you my mum's handy work. They're so stylish she's even had other mum's asking her to make them for their babies, and they'd pay! Go mum, but make sure you keep 30% of any money you make for me - for being your inspiration... :o)

Reversible bibs by My Mum Design.

Catalogue pose - modelling the gekko style.
But it doesn't stop there, mum has been making even more stuff. Recently she's been talking lots about something called Christmas. I'm still not too sure what this is, but from the way she talks about it, it sounds like LOADS OF FUN. She gets all excited when she starts thinking about it, and apparently it's even more exciting now that I'm here...

I'm not sure if I should have seen this but I caught a glimpse and it's got my name on it so what's a boy to do! I asked dad what it is and he said it is called a stocking and that you put things in it at Christmas, but he wouldn't say what... Interesting. Anyway, check out the stocking thing with my name on it - can't wait to see what they put inside!

Way too big for my little feet...
So all hail my domestic goddess mum - the best mum making the best things. Or so says I.

Phoenix Loves... Being back in town.

Knock knock.
Who's there?
Phoenix.
Phoenix who?
Exactly.

Yes, yes, I admit it has been rather a long time since my last post, but there's so much growing up and fun to be had that sometimes I forget. But you all forgive me right? Hopefully my cute new profile picture will help with that...

So what's been happening with me? Well, things have been ticking along nicely. My teeth are coming on (two at the top coming through now), I've been accepted into Fågelsång dagis (Birdsong nursery school) starting the day after my first birthday and I've finally started to crawl. Finally.

A million times more important than all this is the news that I'm coming to England at the end of November. Now you have to understand how ace this is as I haven't seen my farmor, farfar, aunties and friends since we left four months ago - feels weird to think it has been this long. I can't wait for everyone to see what's new with me!

Before that though my auntie Sophie is coming over to see me - the first person to make the trip. Go auntie Soph! Oh and I guess she might want to see mum and dad a bit too, but they'll have to wait their turn...

Finally, I've been doing a little bit of redecorating which I hope you all like - spacey and stuff. I am nearly nine months old now so I like loads of different things all the time - keeps mum and dad on their toes!

So much more to tell but that will have to wait for now. It's good to be back!

Lots of love,

Phoenix Loves... Neomi part II

So just a quick update on how things are going with me and my new friend Neomi...

Hopefully you'll remember we had our first play date a few weeks ago, and last Friday we had our second date at mum's friend's new home. She's called Jasmine and she's the one with the little dog called Ulrik - he's great fun but his breath don't half stink!

We played all afternoon which was ace, although I must admit I did fall asleep at one point... Oops. Saying that though, dad told me he fell asleep in the pub the first time he met mum's friend Liza and mum still liked him when Liza told her about dad, so there's hope for me yet!

I definitely felt less shy this time, after all I'd met them all before so nothing to be scared of. I can also confirm that the rumours are true - Neomi and I swapped dummies! Mum says dummy swapping is the new kissing but I don't know about that - I think we're a bit young!

Just one more kiss...
Dad says it's good to make a girl laugh. Best wear those socks again next time!
I guess things must be going pretty well as we've got another date this week and this time I've invited Neomi over to my place. Can't wait to see her again! Now the eternal conundrum - what to wear?!?

Roll on Friday!

Phoenix Loves... Teeth.

Can you see? If you look closely you can just about make them out, stretching up from the bottom of my mouth. I now have my first two teeth :o) Ok, so 'Phoenix Loves... Teeth' might be pushing it a wee bit, but it is pretty cool!

I've thought about it a lot and I think the pros way out the cons with this whole teeth malarky. Yes, it really, really hurts when they're trying to pop out, but now I've got a couple there's no stopping me. Mum and dad have already felt the wrath of these little babíes - that will teach them to go poking about in my mouth! Ask first next time guys...

Dad says that these will make up my first set of teeth, called baby or milk teeth and that when I'm older they'll fall out and I'll get new, adult ones. Sounds like more pain to me, but dad promised it will be ok and that I'll even be in line for a visit from something called the Tooth Fairy. She goes around collecting all the baby teeth that fall out and I've even heard whispers that she might leave a little somethin' somethin' for me in return... Sweet!

Got to clean to make them gleam!

The thing with teeth is that you have to keep them clean. This is done with something called a toothbrush and I guess it's a bit like a bath for your teeth. I've been doing my best to copy mum and dad when they clean theirs, although I'm not really sure what it is they're doing so I usually just wiggle it about in my mouth a bit and sure enough that seems to please them! Most of the time though they have to give me a hand and I'm cool with that as I'm going to have years and years of brushing them myself when I'm older...

Dad says that there is a general view in the world that British teeth are a bit rubbish and that Swedes usually have whiter than white teeth. Well, I'm not sure how true that is but if this following picture is anything to go by then here's hoping the Swedish genes win that battle!

The tooth hurts dad...
Well, thanks for reading and expect to see lots of toothy grins from yours truly in the near future!

Phoenix Loves... Play.

My favourite places - it's a growing list. But today, at this very moment, I think the number one spot has to go to the play park down the road from where we live.

Always happy to come and play here.

It's not the biggest in the world and it's probably not the best in the world either, but it's mine and I love going there, especially with my mum and dad. It's on the way to the local shops, so whenever mum and dad need something (usually treats) my luck's in!

When you're there in the afternoon, with nobody else around and the sun shining through the trees -there's nothing better. Not that I spend my time there relaxing, nope, there's too much to do! First stop is usually the huge swing which mum or dad always insist on going on with me for my own safety. Yeah and the fact that it's really fun has nothing to do with it I guess!

Nail biting stuff.
Next up we'll usually hit the rocking moose or horse - that's me on the moose with dad in the first picture. Then it's onto the picture game, do a bit of climbing on the ladders, go on another swing and then finish things off with a go on the slide. Check it out:

Spinny things.

I'm going up in the world.

This is the life.

What? Me? Down there?!?

Phew, I'm tired just thinking of all that fun stuff! In fact, I'm far too tired to even finish this blog so why don't we leave it to some old dude that once said something interesting about play - thanks dad for the help (or should that be Google...)

Phoenix Loves... A quiff.

Tin Tin, Mark Lamarr, Jackie Wilson, Mark Kermode and Morrissey - a very select gang that today I disovered I'm now part of. It's official. I have a quiff!

As soon as I found out I asked dad a bit more about it and I think I'm right in saying a quiff is a style of haircut that some people (cool ones I guess) have. Dad said that it was a popular style in the 1950s and then again in the 1980s, so on second thoughts perhaps not so cool... sounds ancient!

I had lots of hair when I was born, but mum told me that I lost some when I was a little baby as it rubbed off when I slept. It came off mainly from the sides so now my hair is short at the sides but longer on top as that bit carried on growing, making it my very own quiff! Check it out...

The Phoenix Love quiff.
There's been loads of famous quiffs over the years and most of them are just names to me, but dad promises me they're all cool in their own way. Here are some of my faves...

Clockwise from top left - Tin Tin, Jackie Wilson, Mark Kermode and Mark Lemarr.
I think my favourite, and the leader of all quiffs has to be Morrissey from The Smiths, who as you already know, I like. Maybe I'll keep growing mine and aim to have one just like his, although dad says I could end up looking more like some guy called Curly Watts!

Morrissey look is good.

...Curly Watts not so good!
I'm pretty chuffed with my quiff and I hope you all like it too. I think it was a bit mean of dad to say mine could end up looking like that Curly Watts dude - his do is well rubs!

Just for that, I think everyone needs to know the truth about my dad's quiffed past. Check out this old picture of him when he was 17 - sorry pops, you definitely can't join our gang!

Ha ha. Look at dad's sorry quiff on the far left!
Thanks for reading!

Phoenix Loves... Billebjer.

No, Billebjer isn't a new favourite word that I've created, it's one of my new favourite places.

As you've seen, water has been a big part of my summer so far and that doesn't seem like it will stop anytime soon as the sun keeps on shining! And I've quickly found out that the best thing to do when the sun is shining is to find some water to cool yourself down. So with that in mind, today mum and dad took me off on an adventure to Billebjer.

Mum told me that all around where we live there are things called quarries, which are basically just rock - although not the sort of rock that dad is always trying to make me listen to! Billebjer used to be one of these quarries and mum said that when the men were finished with it they filled it with lots of water so that people like us could enjoy a swim. She says there's even a tractor at the bottom that the men left behind!

Billebjer is in the heart of the woods.

Good to know I've always got dad's support.
Kind of like being at the beach, eating a toy cow.
As it was hot and a Sunday there were lots of people there, and one guy looked a little bit different to everyone else. For starters he had all his clothes on (unlike others) but also they were really old and he had a big, long beard too. Mum and dad said he was something called a hippy and that he wasn't there to swim but he lived there! He had his own tent that he'd built, a fire and kept getting his guitar out to play some songs, which was nice.

Guitar in the forest - dad's dream. Except this dude could play guitar!
I hope he's there next time we go as his guitar playing sounded really nice and there was something magical about him and his little camp. Everyone else can start to look the same to me sometimes so I think its good when I find someone who looks a little bit different and he was certainly that!

So another great day out with mum and dad. I think the forest is great but I'm not sure I'd want to live there all the time - it looks like it could be a bit scary at night... Let's hope mum and dad find jobs soon otherwise I might be finding out pretty soon!

Phoenix Loves... Domestic goddess mum!

Just a quick thing - I think you've all seen this picture before, it's me on my date with the lovely Neomi, but have another look and check out the bib I'm wearing...

Look at my cool bib.
This is probably my favourite out of all of my many, many, many bibs! This was made for me a little while ago by mum and dad's friend Ida. She's Swedish just like mum and I think being Swedish must mean you're like super talented or something as she made this (and another cute one!) all by herself. You can't see from the picture but it is actually two bibs in one as there is another picture on the other side. How cool is that?

So I'd like to thank Ida for the brilliant bibs, and also thank her for inspiring my mum. You see, mum loved them just as much as me and decided that she's going to make some too. Go mum! Work is still in progress but stay tuned for pictures of mum's handy work in the not too distant future...

Phoenix Love x x x

Phoenix Loves... Stripey.

"If you live to be a hundred, I want to live to be a hundred minus one day so I never have to live without you."

Dad helped me with that bit. It's from a book called Winnie-the-Pooh and that's how I feel about a certain someone in my life. You've probably heard me mention him before but I don't think you've been formally introduced. His name is Stripey and he's my best friend, my mate, my buddy, my chum, pal, playmate and sidekick. He's everything to me.

He was a present from my godmummy Kathryn and we've been thick as thieves ever since we first met. In fact, I can't sleep unless he's by my side. I'm not sure what it is I like about him so much but I guess it's just that he's always there for me. He's there when I wake up, there when I want to play and right there by my side when I'm tired or upset. A thoroughly good egg you could say!

My buddy Stripey.
As you can tell, me and Stripes are partners in crime and I'd be lost without him, so we had a bit of a shock the other day when me, mum and dad found this on our way for a swim...

...Stripey?

The same beige fur, the same blue and white stripey top and the same kind red heart on his chest - it looked just like Stripey...

But fear not! Mum and dad thought about it for a minute and were positive that Stripey was tucked up in bed at home and I always, always trust them. As soon as we got home we checked upstairs and there he was, chilling out as usual - good old Stripey!

I'm so glad that my Stripey is ok, but it makes me sad to think that somebody else hasn't got their's anymore. The worst thing is that they might not even know where their's is, they might just think he's lost. At least if they found him then they could say goodbye properly. Poor them.

Oh wait, dad's just told me that Stripeys live in some place called Ikea and that there are loads around, so they should be able to find another one. Yay!

Aaah, good to have him back!
Hope I didn't scare you too much godmummy Kathryn... Thanks so much for Stripey!

Phoenix Loves... Parent time.

Since we've been in Sweden mum and dad have been about all the time. When I wake up - they're there. When I'm hungry - they're there. Even when I'm going to the toilet - they're there! Not that I'm complaining mind as they're my best buddies, even if they are a bit annoying sometimes with all their silly faces and noises up in my grill!

You see, now that we live in another country the folks can't keep doing their old jobs - they have to find new ones instead. Dad says this is known as being 'unemployed' but he's not treating it as that, instead he says it's time that he can spend watching yours truly grow up. If he was still at work in London there's loads of stuff he'd be missing.

Take the last few days for example. When the sun's shining like it has been here, there's nothing better to do than hit some local hang outs - the play park and swimming pools in particular! Check it out:

That's the ticket. Now just get me Stripey and wake me when it's lunch!

Smiles are order of the day when it's mum and dad time.

Fun in the sun with pappa.

What?!? I'm going down there?!?

It's tiring keeping the folks entertained all day...

So sure they may be old, they may be silly and they may be everywhere I look, but I wouldn't swap them for the world. Long may mum and dad time continue!

Oh wait, mum has just told me that no new jobs equals no Christmas presents for me... On second thoughts guys, step up the job searches - I'm going to be checking up on you! But let's enjoy the time together whilst it lasts :)
